To see what our eyes capture is evidence of the incredibly complex, creative and perfect design God has done in our body. As if taken from a science fiction movie, light rays enter the pupil (and other important structures on the way) then chemical reactions that occur in seconds produce the image on the retina. Immediately its registered into the brain because the chemical reactions stimulate the receptors in it and the image is “seen”.
Despite being a super fast activity (new studies report that the eye takes 13 milliseconds to process an image), it is delicate, needs nutrition, blood flow, oxygen and a perfect balance between the different parts of the eye and brain.
While meditating on the Lord, I remember things my eyes have seen, actions that I have witnessed but my spirit has revealed to me that it’s not correct or it’s not of God. Where do we draw the line between what the physical eyes see and what the spiritual eyes see? When Jesus Christ ascended to heaven, He sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in us (see Acts 2: 16-17) “What you see was predicted long ago by the prophet Joel: ‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people’.” Believers and followers of Christ or not, we all have the Holy Spirit. Everything will depend on how much more you count on Him in your life and not your own intelligence, ability and talent. Because if you do not believe Jesus came to earth and left us a Comforter in the Holy Spirit, you cannot enjoy all the promises God has for you.
In my experience reading devotionals, listening to Christian music I have come to realize that I knew of God. However, in making daily decisions, God was not in my mind. My perception was that what I saw happened in my world was my problem, God was far away …in heaven. Even having accepted Christ into my heart many years ago I was spiritually blind.
Then at a defining moment in my life when the future looked uncertain, when I felt I did not receive motivational messages in my church, I took the decision to be obedient to God, read the Word every day and walk in faith “upon the waters ” He put before me. Only then I saw and knew God. In Romans 4:13 (NLT) tells us that “God’s promise to give the whole earth to Abraham and his descendants was based not on his obedience to God’s law, but on a right relationship with God that comes by faith.” But this does not mean that suddenly we are going to live a life of fable. Once you see the greatness, grace, mercy and power of God you cannot but be amazed that He still is at work in this time, constantly by your side, for you realize that He wants you to be in victory. He wants you to reach the dream He placed in your heart and fulfill your purpose in Him. And then you will realize that you were blind and understand that “The lord opens the eyes of the blind. The lord lifts up those who are weighed down. The lord loves the godly” (Psalm 146: 8 NLT). Your testimony will be like this passage in Matthew 9:26 (NLT) “The report of this miracle swept through the entire countryside. Jesus Heals the Blind”. You healed of physical and spiritual blindness! Glory be to God!
